Fuel lines should never rest on the motor or "rub" around. Braided or not. The hard lines have a vac. galley on them as well that @ least needs to be replaced w. a hose. The stock set up keeps fuel lines off the motor and the ones that could @ some point come in contact w. hood, inside fender etc have the secondary plastic sheeting on them. It is also not a good practice to run long lengths of high pressure fuel lines because you expose yourself to larger risk of leaks. I don't think there is any length of on the car greater then 18inchs or so.
IMHO removing the hard lines is a "lazy" mod, rather then rebuilding the fuel set up correctly.
